Transportation of contraband drug into state continues

IMPHAL, June 2: Despite all police action and the uproar from the general public over the drug trafficking cases in the state, transportation of illegal drugs into the state and through the state continue as is evident from the seizure of many such contraband consignments in the state in recent times.

Sekmai police seized one such contraband drug consignment from a Tata truck along the National Highway 2 under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district and arrested the handyman and the driver of the truck yesterday evening around 6pm.

Meanwhile, angered local womenfolk  gheraoed the Sekmai police soon after getting information about the seizure of drugs and demanded from the police to burn down the seized drugs.

Officer in Charge of Sekmai Police Inspector Premjit, today told media persons that the Tata truck was seized during routine frisking and checking at the police check post just in front of the Sekmai Police station.

The truck was carrying floor tiles and Life Saving Drugs with the hidden consignment of contraband drugs, he said.

The consignment included 41,314 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon, 4,500 capsules of Nitrosun-10; 380 numbers of 100ml bottles of LUPICOF codeine Syrup and 100 numbers of bottles of 100ml R-cof codeine Syrup sealed in six cartoon boxes and a big gunny bag, the police officer said.

The seized items along with the two arrested persons and the Tata truck were paraded before the media persons today at the Sekmai police station.

The police officer continued that the police had prior information about the transportation of the arrival and had already strengthened its routine checking and frisking in the area.

He identified that seized Tata truck as bearing registration number AS 11 AC 6348; its driver as Md Tejammudin (38), alias Sana son of Md Nijamuddin of Lilong Chingkham Makha Dam Manak and the handymen identified as Md Siraj Khan (19), son of Nahatomba of Thoubal Moijing Wangmataba Mayai Leikai.

The police has registered a case against the arrested persons.

Meanwhile, womenfolk of the area had gathered around the police station demanding burning down of the illegal consignment, he said.
