CHANDEL, July 16: The Joint Action Committee against the alleged killing of DK Moshilpha Maring while announcing the suspension of bandh along NH-2 from 6 pm of today has thanked the district administration including Police of both Chandel and Thoubal, has strongly denounced the action of the state police commandos that  reportedly left 11 of its bandh volunteers injured during its sponsored bandh along NH-2, enforced from midnight of July 15.

Announcing this to the media here in Chandel, the Convenor of the JAC Gabriel Chinir stated that today’s bandh was imposed to register protest against the indefinite bandh underway at Sora in Thoubal district saying that the indefinite bandh will hamper the process of the ongoing investigation into the killing of DK Moshilpha Maring and subsequent arrest of the culprit.

Co convener of the JAC TH Angdun while urging the people to continue refrain from any action that may flare up communal tension, pledge that the JAC will continue to protest until and unless the law enforcing agency book the mastermind culprit along with all those involved and disclose the reasons behind the killing of DK Moshilpha.

Denouncing the lathi charge of the police commandoes, he said that the injured persons must be compensated.

Monsang Tribe President Ng Benithan while speaking to the media strongly denounced the action of the Police Commando who by force tried to thwart bandh volunteers by firing tear gas shells at Kakching Lamkhai.

He said, “Police Commando trying to disperse JAC bandh supporters of today is a direct challenge to the people who love justice. No Police commando reacted when there was Indefinite Bandh enforced at Sora of Thoubal district that left some vehicles causing damage’.

During today’s bandh, a Hero Honda Splendor bearing registration number MN0 –IY 3420 was damaged beyond repair at Kakching Lamkhai.

Police Commandos took to firing tear gas shells to keep the agitating mob under control.

While bandh supporters were confined at strategic locations, many supporters completely blocked the road at Kakching Lamkhai putting barrier across the road, burning tubes, tyres and debris.  Supporters were seen with catapults, stones, sticks etc.

At Pallel, bandh supporters blocked the road in front of the forest check post.  When some bandh volunteers  were asking shop keepers to down their shutter, Police personnel who were on duty interrupted and thrashed them thereby leading to a clash between the bandh supporters and the Police that left many  injured in the process.

Those injured in the incident are identified as Th Leimukham s/o Merung, Temui w/o DW Kopham, L Johny s/o L Thangjo, R Koyaingam s/o late R Modungkhul, Kh Yaima s/o R Korungthang, Y Angneikham s/o Y Tajam all of them residents of Minou, H Khamba s/o Khongshel of Khangshim, MM Molungthar s/o MM Kountim of Saibol, Ch Ame of Kambang and the chairman of Tuishimi village was also injured.
