Dead body recovered at Chingmeirong

IMPHAL, July 22: The dead body of a person said to be daily wage earner was found in front of the Chingmeirong Oil pump under Lamphel police station today around 6am by locals.  A gash on the back of the head suspected to be inflicted by a sharp object was visible on the dead body.

The concerned police has also reportedly picked up three individuals suspected to be involved in the death of the 38 year old who has been identified by his wife.

The dead body has been handed over to family members following a post mortem at the Regional Institute of medical Sciences, today.

According to the wife, who identified herself as Ibeton, the deceased is one Leishangthem Sanjoy (38), son of (L) Ibocha of Mayang Imphal, Kokchai Mamang Leikai and had been staying alone at a rented house at Mantripukhri for the past few months as a daily wage earner.

She further told media persons, that her husband had called her from a friend’s mobile around 9pm yesterday informing that he has lost his mobile and that he had a confrontation with some friends.

He had also told her that he might have lost his mobile during the said confrontation, she said and added that he was calling from the mobile of a friend identified as Sobha.

Later on, when her family tried to contact the number again, Sobha who had picked up the mobile had informed the family that he had returned to his residence at Chingmeirong, while the deceased had returned to his rented accommodation, she continued.

While coming to Imphal this morning to confirm that her husband was alright, she saw people gathering at Chingmeirong area in front of the petrol pump  and when she went near, she found her husband lying dead, she claimed.

The identities of the three could not be ascertained till the filling of this report.
