IMPHAL, July 31: The High Court of Manipur has today served ‘Show Cause
Notice’ to PRO (Defence) Col Ajay Chowdhury and two other individuals out
of the total seven accused who were reportedly arrested along with a
large quantity of illegal drugs from infront of the New Building gate of
Pallel police station at about 7:20 am on February 24 last.
Sources said that a bench of High Court of Manipur of Justice N Kotishwar
has served ‘show cause notice’ to Col Ajay Chowdhury (49), son of (L)
Shashidhar Narayan Chowdhury of Monghyr district PO & PS-Monghyr, Bihar
A/P 137 Pratap Chowk, Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi (posted at M-Sector,
Imphal as PRO (defence), Ministry of Defence, Govt of India), Ngairangbam
Brojendro Singh (40), son of (L) Ng Gyaneshor Singh of Singjamei
Khongnang Pheidekpi and RK Babloo, (25), son of RK Bijen Singh of Top
Khongnangkhong.
The Kakching police had registered three different cases, FIR Nos 26(2)
2013, 27(2) 2013 and 28 (2) 2013 Kakching PS under IPC, Narcotic Drugs &
Psychotropic Substances (ND & PS) Act and 27 Arms Act against the seven accused.
They were produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate
(CJM), Thoubal by Kakching police on February 25th, 2013 and had been
remanded to police custody and later remanded to judicial custody.
The High Court transferred the cases to Special Court (NDPS), Manipur.
The Special Court granted bail to the three accused Col Ajay Chowdhury,
Ng Brojendro Singh and RK Babloo on July 17 last.
The State government under the initiative of Secretary (Law), Govt of
Manipur challenging against the bail order filed ‘criminal revision
petition’ at the High Court of Manipur on July 27 last.
The hearing for the case was held today by a bench of Justice N Kotishwar
where ‘show cause notice’ were served against the three accused. The
court has given two weeks time to reply to the show cause notice and has
barred all three from leaving the state.
