India`s Ambassador to Myanmar visits MU

    IMPHAL, July 31: The Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhaya accompanied by O Nabakishore Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industry visited Manipur University today.
    The Vice Chancellor, Prof HNK Sarma, the Registrar, Deans and Heads of Departments were also present during the visit.

    The Ambassador also visited the Centre for Myanmar Studies of the University and met its Director, Prof W Nabakumar Singh.

    Programs taken up to strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Myanmar by Manipur University were also highlighted to the visiting Ambassador including the reservation of seats for Myanmar students in the Masters Degree Courses in 17 Departments at MU, Myanmar students to be exempted from paying tuition fees and hostel rent.

    The VC, MU handed over to the visiting Ambassador a duly signed MoU with two institutes in Myanmar, namely, Monywa Institute of Economics and Mandalay University for onward transmission to the Department of Higher Education, Government of Myanmar. The MoU envisages exchanges of academia in various fields based on the principles of mutual equality and reciprocity of benefits. This was agreed to in principle at the Business Conclave meeting of the Chief Minister`s level with the Myanmar Government authority of the Sagiang Region.
