JDO deplores NH 37 being described as an alternative

    IMPHAL, July 22: The Jiri Development Organisation (JDO), Jiribam has expressed its concern on developing Imphal-Jiri road as an alternative lifeline saying that several social organizations along with the state government have been supporting the issue.

    However, promotion of the NH 2 Imphal-Dimapur continues for certain benefits, the statement said before adding that the concern expressed by the government and the social organizations for the development of the highway has amounted to pretentious gestures, it said.

    Moreover, the Border Road Organisation (BRO) had given commitment several times in the past to make it operational before March 2013, however has continued to extend the deadline with unreasonable statements, it continued.

    Citing that the Manipur government has itself exposed its weakness and failure to take action against the BRO by maintaining silence has further urged the government to see the indifferent nature of the BRO.

    It is further said their displeasure for taking interest to Imphal-Jiri stretch of road as an alternative means owing to sinking of large portion of landmass at the NH 39 near Kohima while adding that if the Governments both at the Centre and State were having frequent visits as they are now doing would definitely strengthen the highway.
