IMPHAL, July 29: A two-day first solo art exhibition of one Konthoujam Maikel Meetei sponsored by Spastic Society of Manipur was inaugurated today at the Nupilal Memorial Complex.
It was attended by K Sobita Devi, Director, Department of Arts and Culture; S Vedeshwar Sharma, secretary, Manipur State Kala Academy and Y Nabachandra Singh as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, K Sobita stated that the art exhibition is a welcoming event to usher upon an artistic display adding that she would extend financial assistance and other possible helps to the artiste in his future’s painting, books publication and exhibition events.
While lauding the artiste for coming up with such a magnificent artistic works despite being a differently abled person, she further prayed for success on his future’s projects.
S. Vedeshwar said it is not easy for an artiste to express one’s artistic expertise in a public domain and further hailed the artiste for his determination and effort towards the field and that such art touches one’s heart and soul.
K. Maikel said he would be delighted if his exhibition could provide relief and peace of mind to visitors amid the conflict torn situation of the society informing that he would be sending some pieces of handicrafts which he had made himself for nomination in the National Handicraft Award.
It may be mentioned that Konthoujam Maikel Meetei, a resident of Sagolmang Waikhong, Pangei born on February 12, 1989 had to go through with a below knee amputation after being injured in a bomb blast at Pourabi, Imphal East on December 16, 2007.
He completed his B.F.A. Painting course from Imphal Art College in 2010 and had participated in many children’s and youth level art competition cum exhibition in State, Zonal, National and International level namely ASM annual art exhibition 2009 and 2011, Manipur State Art Expo, 2009 and 2010, Kalakshetra, Guwahati 2009 and MSKA annual art exhibition 2009 and 2010.
