CCpur village observes centenary

LAMKA, August 13: Gelmual village which lies in the suburbs of Lamka town, today, celebrated its centenary by organizing a program attended by elected members, government officials and village chief of the area apart from the village folks.

Several prominent social workers and elected members of ADCC spoke on the occasion.

Member, District Council T Sumlianthang of Lanva praised the Gelmol village for its durability, he also said that “there are not many villages in the area which have celebrated its centenary and as such it is a moment of pride for each and every villagers of Gelmol.

Member District Council Touthang of Tuibuang speaking on the occasion, asked the villagers of Gelmol to live harmoniously and peacefully and also to take the challenge of excellent in education which, he said, will be a befitting tribute to the Gelmol village centenary celebration.

A 15 feet tall commemoration stone for the village centenary celebration was inaugurated by Jamthang Lungdim who is the head of the Gelmol village chief`s clans.

A memorial stone in remembrance of the first Gelmuol village settlement was also unveiled which was followed by the beating of the gong by the VIP`s present.

A book on the history of the village written by the chief of the village Shonkhai Lungdim was also released on the occasion

Gelmol village was established on March 28, 1913 by the founder of the village (L) Chomjam Lhungdim with 22 household in the village.
