The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration function held for induction of an operation theatre in District Hospital, Khangabok in Thoubal district, organised by Health Society, Thoubal.

Phungzathang Tonsing further said even though the questions of life and death solely lies with the almighty, doctors have been playing a pivotal role in curing and saving the lives of patients as their profession is to save lives.

Doctors along with nurses should put concerted effort to satisfy patients, he said while pointing out that some Head of Departments impel their juniors to do their work which should be avoided.

The roles of doctor and nurse are of paramount importance and their services are regarded on top priority of the Health Department, he noted.

The minister expressed discontentment on various problems faced by personnel of the medical profession during bandhs and other agitations and the downsizing of officials in some departments including Medical Dept which had to be acted out due to financial problems of the government.

Director, State Health Society Dr O Ibomcha said the operation theatre of District Hospital, Thoubal had been reeling under a pitiable condition even after its inauguration in terms of its design and working condition but now the it has started functioning after the block was repaired with its machines and equipments being up to date.

The only things left to do for the hospital now is to make its Sewage Treatment Plant functional and procure an Incinerator Machine to dispose off waste materials.

MLA O Landhoni stated that the Thoubal district is the second most populated district of the State but women of the district are compelled to travel to Imphal for delivery cases facing many untold miseries. But now as the hospital has been equipped with an operation theatre, such problems  would be solved.
