JAC formed, protest against Auto driver`s death gains momentum

IMPHAL, August 29: Locals of Sagolband Tera and Auto Association Manipur have formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in connection with the alleged killing of Auto driver A Nobin during a meeting held today morning at Tera bazaar.

A five point memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister and Home Minister today evening after a protest rally was taken out at Tera Bazar.

The rally which started from Tera Bazar was stopped by a large contingent of police personnel from proceeding further from Sagolband Salam Leikai.

The protestors were moving towards the CM’s bungalow.

Meanwhile, the memorandum has demanded the arrest of the culprit(s) involved in the killing of (L) A Nobin by August 31 and to award befitting punishment to all involved according to the law of the land.  

The memorandum has also demanded from the government to take special measures for the safety of the Auto and Van drivers of the state and suggested police to conduct checking at different police outposts for vehicles carrying reserved passenger after 7 pm.

The memorandum demanded adequate ex gratia to the deceased`s family and also to provide a government job to one of the kin of the deceased according to his or her qualification.             

It may be mentioned here that Auto driver A Nobin was found dead with his throat slit near the construction site of the Food Cooperation of India, Thoubal at Tangjeng under Thoubal police station yesterday early morning.
