NSCN (IM) leader arrested in Arunachal MP killing connection

DIMAPUR, August 21 : A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) led by DSP Debashish Dhar and National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested NSCN (IM) leader, Hormi Muivah from Jorhat, who was reportedly wanted in connection with the murder of former MP of Arunachal Pradesh and had been absconding for a long time.  

Muivah, who is reportedly a `Brigadier` in the NSCN (IM), was arrested along with two other NSCN (IM) cadres.  

He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate from where he was handed over to CBI on transit remand.  

It may be mentioned that on December 23, 2007,  Wangcha Rajkumar MP from Arunachal Pradesh was killed in Teju under Lohit district of Arunahal.  

It is alleged that Hormi Muivah along with others reportedly shot the former MP who was playing Badminton at Deomali Indoor Stadium at around 7:15 pm and fled.  

The Arunachal Government had then asked the CBI to investigate into the case.  

According to sources, CBI had filed a case (2/F/2008) at Kolkata High Court in this connection and was on the look out of the absconding NSCN leader.  

Based on intelligence inputs, a team of CBI and NIA from Kolkata reached Jorhat Tuesday and with the assistance of Jorhat Police nabbed Hormi Muivah Wednesday afternoon.

It is learnt that he would be taken to Teju and then to Kolkata for further investigation.  

It may be mentioned that in January 2011, “liut” Kaping Luikham was arrested by the CBI in connection with the said murder from Imphal.  

The investigating agency earlier arrested two militants – Ramchan Longlen and Toche Wangsu – on March 3, 2010 and April 7, 2010 respectively in connection with the same case.  

Meanwhile, the two NSCN (IM) cadres arrested along with Hormi Muivah have been identified as Bibon Angam and Salak Walling. They were arrested while traveling in a car in the heart of Jorhat city.  

According to Jorhat Superintendent of Police Sanjukta Parashar, one 6 mm pistol, 55 live cartridges and Rs 2.5 lakh cash were also recovered from them.
