AR post comes under heavy firing, PLA claims attack

IMPHAL, September 28: Heavily armed militants suspected to be proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), armed wing of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) attacked a post of the 44 Assam Rifles D company located at Konkan Village, 29 Km south east of Cachad Police Station under Kamjong sub-division, Ukhrul district today.

Assam Rifles sources said one personnel was injured in the attack.

Sources said that the attack was carried out by around 100 heavily armed cadres around 2:30 this afternoon. It has been further informed that the attackers came passing through Aisi village bordering Myanmar.

The AR post came under a volley of fire from different directions including several rounds of rocket launchers which reportedly landed inside the campus.

The number of casualties could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. However, villagers nearby the area reported to have seen ambulances rushing towards the AR Post. On the other hand, sources from AR revealed that only one personnel was injured during the attack.

Later in the evening around 6:30 pm, the villagers informed to have heard two loud explosions from the area.

Further reports said that the AR have not officially intimated to the police about the incident. Additionally, heavy rain prevented the police team to advance towards the site, till the filing of this report.
