HC serves show cause notice to CS, DGP over police selection case

IMPHAL, September 4: A double bench of the High Court of Manipur, comprising of Chief Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre and Justice N Kotiswar, on Wednesday served show cause notice returnable after two weeks, to five top  state officials including the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, in connection with the alleged irregularities in the proceedings for the selection of Sub-inspectors of Police and Jemadar MR/IRB of Manipur Police Department.

The notice was served in response to a case (WP (C) NO. 618 of 2013) filed by 5 candidates out of a total 66 candidates who failed in the selection of the said recruitment rally, challenging the results.

The first proceeding of the case was taken up on August 30, 2013, by a single bench of Chief Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre wherein it listed the case to the double bench.

Sources also informed that the other three states respondents includes Principal Secretary Home, Government of Manipur, Director of the Manipur Police Training College, Pangei who is the chairman of the selection Committee/Board and Director, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur.

Further, the sources informed that during the proceedings, the Court after hearing from the counsel of the petitioner (s) were of the opinion as to why the state respondents should not submit an ‘Affidavit of Opposition’ to the court in this connection.

It may be mentioned that the total of number of respondents in this case is 379.

The numbers of SI/Jemadar selected in the recruitment rally allegedly exceeded the numbers post invited as mentioned in the official notification before the selection.

At the same time, the petitioner also charges the state authority of selecting of candidates who did not participated in the viva voice, written test failed candidates and selection of candidates who possessed fake sports certificate.
