College ceiling collapses

IMPHAL, November 23: The ceiling of a room at the Chemistry department of Manipur College at Chingamakhong collapsed today but luckily the students present there escaped unhurt by a hair breadth.

Speaking to media persons at the spot a student of the college who also holds the portfolio of Imphal West general secretary, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) L Gyanashore stated that even before the incident occurred today they have urged several times to the principal for repair of the damaged part of ceiling, but the college authority have been neglecting and resulting in the ceiling caving in.

He demanded that the concerned authority and the college authority check the damaged infrastructure at the earliest for a better education scenario. If the said demands are not fulfilled then it will take up various formsof agitations along with the students organizations.

Meanwhile, clarifying on the incident, principal of the college Dr Ksh Jayenta Kumar said that the damaged part was established in the 2009 but due to lack of formal work order the process had been disrupted. This year the contract was taken over by contractor K Ranjit Singh and the funding was sanctioned under the Ministry of DONER.
