Man hacked to death, three injured

IMPHAL, November 23: A person engaged in cutting bamboo was killed and three others suffered serious injuries when they were hacked by a mate with a machete at their temporary cabin at Langkelong in Tousem sub-division of Tamenglong district, which is about 35 kilometres from Jiribam police station and close to Makru.

According to sources, Jayenta, one of the 23 persons staying at the cabin said the incident occurred at around 10.30 pm when the labourers were preparing themselves to hit the sack after dinner. The assailant who was identified as M Nilokumar Singha alias Nana, 30, son of Tombok of Babukhal started attacking his companions with a broad knife.

In the assault, Doly Joy, 30, son of late Puyaram of Lakhisora of Cachar in Assam died at the spot. The injured were identified as Thounaojam Bono Singh, 25, son of Th Baladev of Kamranga, who was injured in the neck; Jesiwa, 27, brother of Doly Joy and Lal Mahon, 30, son of Malik Rai of Lakhisora, of Cachar in Assam. Those injured are undergoing treatment at Jiribam Community Health Centre after they were brought there this afternoon.

Nilokumar has reportedly absconded after carrying out the attack and his whereabouts is still unknown.

A case has been filed with Nungba police station.
