PREPAK on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

IMPHAL, November 24: The People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) wholeheartedly supports the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, said a press statement of the outfit.

Showing concern over the rise in crime against woman, the outfit said even in the post modernism day when the development has been witnessed all over, there has been an increase in crimes against women.

It continued the rate of crimes against women witnessed in the state has reached a frightening stage. There are daily incidents of woman being raped and then killed, it said.

It further said that it is in the history books that the three sisters- Patria, Minerva Mirabel and Maria Teresa who had been instrumental in bringing down the Fascist rule of Rafael Trujillo of Dominican Republic were killed in a suspicious car accident on November 25, 1960. And the day has been observed throughout the world as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, it continued.

The statement further said that according to the National Crime Record Bureau, in the year 2012 in India 8233 women died in dowry related incidents, and in 2011 a total of 8618 women died; likewise in 2010 there were 8399, in 2009 there were 8383 and in 2008 there were 8172 deaths.

It further said that it has become a tradition of India to record more than 8000 deaths of women in a year.
