`Three-fourth of Ukhrul Dist Hospital finished`

IMPHAL, November 18: The ground floor, 1st floor and the operation theatre of the under construction 50-bedded Ukhrul district hospital will be completed by next year February, said state Health minister Phungzathang Tonsing.

The minister was addressing media persons at the construction site during an inspection tour today. He was accompanied by Govindas Konthoujam minister Commerce and Industry, principal secretary Health Sohail Aktar and other officials of the Directorate of Health.

The minister said that the construction work of the district hospital was started in the year 2009 under engineers of the Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO) with funding from the DoNER ministry at the revised estimated cost of Rs 24 crores from the earlier estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.

Already around 75 percent of construction work of the hospital is completed and electrical fittings and plaster works have already been started, he continued.

The minister also instructed the concerned engineers and the labourers for the completion of the ground floor, 1st Floor and the operation theatre by the end of February, 2014.

Although the construction of the hospital was to be completed earlier, due to the shortage of the state matching share of the centrally sponsored scheme, the DoNER ministry had delayed the funding which resulted in the slowing down of construction work, he expressed.

He further assured that from now on, the required state matching shares will be deposited in time and so there will be uninterrupted construction work in all projects related to the health sector not only in Ukhrul district but in all districts of the state.

Further elaborating on his inspection tour today, the minister expressed satisfaction with the progress in the hospital construction work since the past few months; and further observed that he had witnessed some sub-standard works in the past which seemed to be rectified after demolishing the sub-standards parts of the construction.

The minister and his team also inspected the hospital laboratory, labour room, operation theatre and other equipment at the present Ukhrul District Hospital and further urged the hospital staffs to inform the concern department authorities for any kinds of assistance needed with the stern assurance that he will see to it that their demands are look into.
