IMPHAL, November 16: The United Naga Council in a press statement has lamented the November 12 gun fight at Phailong in Tamenglong district.

The incident has resulted in loss of precious lives and injuries, it said before adding that villagers have fled from the villages in panic as the confronting sides are reported to be gearing up for another showdown.

The atmosphere in the area is vitiated with insecurity, it continued.

It continued that it condemns any form of violence because it silences the voice of reason within society and within oneself.

“We appeal to the armed groups as we have always done in the past, to allow space for dialogue to come in place so the noble cause that they espouse may be upheld unitedly in spirit of brotherhood.”

The statement continued that the UNC also condemns the bomb attack on the office of the Tangkhul Naga Long, in the heart of thickly populated Ukhrul town on the night of 15th November, 2013.

We reiterate that such abominable acts are alien to the culture and social values of the Naga people. While it is the moral obligation of every Naga to uphold the traditional institution of the people, some mindless force have once again attacked and insulted the same.

The civil society, which upholds the unity and oneness of the people once again appeal to all concern to refrain from violence, use of terror weapons and indulging in self inflictions which reduces our hopes and aspirations as a people.
