Assam Rifles seized illegal sander wood worth crores

IMPHAL, December 6: A large quantity of banned sander wood well camouflaged under layers of gravel  and sand carrying in three vehicles of approximately 147 logs weighing 4.3 tonnes were seized by 6 DOGRA of 26 Sector AR on Dec 5, 2013 at Moltuk in Chandel district.

According to a press release from the PRO IGAR (South), the seizure of the said sander wood was made by the said security forces under the aegis of IGAR (South) by establishing a vehicle check post at Moltuk.

The security forces stationed at the said location stopped vehicles bearing registration number MN -01-9152, NL– 04A- 3293 and MN–01-5909 at around 2 pm on Dec 5 13.

The approximate cost of these logs is Rs 2 crores, it said adding that on questioning the driver, it was disclosed that these vehicles were hired by S K Lovering for delivering this timber to village Molphibung.

The people involved in this illegal transportation of timber have been identified as David (driver of the vehicle MN -01 9152) , Kotab Lamkang (vehicle owner), Bebe Lamkang and Koko Lamkang, T Medun (driver of the vehicle NL–04A 3293), Kako Lamkang, Kothil Manng and Prem Kumar Meitei, Th Komang (driver of the vehicle MN-01-5909), Motrong Lamkang, Romesh Lamkong, Welson Lamkang, Geroge Lamkang, Rengkamung Lamkang and Tarphot Lamkang.

All people along with the sander wood have been handed over to the Forest Department of Manipur.
