JMG declines militants` pleas for gun license

IMPHAL, Dec 20: A meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group was held today at the Banquet Hall of the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles, chaired by Dr J Suresh Babu.

The meeting started around 2 pm and lasted for two and half hours.

It has been informed that the militant groups tabled their demand to set up a model village, permanent designated camps, for the home coming ultras, issuing license guns for the leaders of the ultras for their personnel security.

Responding to demands, the government representatives assured to look into the matter of setting up model village. However, it turned down the demand for license gun stating they are not eligible as cases are pending against them.

The militant leaders put up nine charters of demands and drew the attention of the government that the rampant involvement of militant cadres in crimes was due to the inconsistency in the payment of honorarium entitled to them.

The meeting was attended ADGP (LO) LM Khaute; ADGP (Intelligence) V Zathang; Aching Haokip, SP CID (SB); Ispector General of AR (south); representatives from CRPF and BSF among others.

Representatives of UPPK, KYKL MDF, KCP Nongdrenkhomba; KCP City Meitei, KCP Lamphel (Taibanganba) and URF also attended by the meeting.
