Kidnapped masons released

IMPHAL, December 26: The two masons who were kidnapped by suspected Kuki militants from Tuichemphai LP School on December 10 were release unharmed by the kidnappers on December 24 around 4 pm.

The two were released at the foothills of Eishumphai Village under Saikul Police Station.

The masons had remained captive for 14 days regarding a monetary demand, however, it is not known whether the demand was met.

The two masons are identified as Amom Doren, 36, son of A Kripa of Wangoo Sandankhong and Sanasam Tomba alias Kala, 44, son of Sekhar of Wangoo Heinouyam Makha.

Meanwhile, the two were handed over to their respective families by the police after completing the needed and formal proceedings, informed a source.

It may be mentioned that the two masons who were engaged in construction work of a culvert of a road side at Tuichamphai along the Sapermeina-Ekou road were kidnapped by suspected well-armed Kuki militant cadres on December 10 from their makeshift camp inside the Tuichamphai LP School at around 8.30 pm.

The Kuki Students’ Organisation, Saikul; Kuki Inpi Saikul and womenfolk had also staged a joint sit in protest demanding the safe release of the two masons unharmed at Ekou Bazar on December 22 last.
