IMPHAL, December 26: Womenfolk of Sagolband Meino Leirak accompanied by family members of Superintending Engineer in charge, MANIDCO, Haobijam Manojkumar today staged a sit in protest against the placing of a hand grenade at the residence of the engineer, yesterday.
The protest was staged at the engineer’s locality and organised by the Yumjao Lairembi Apunba Lup.
An unidentified youth had left the Chinese made hand grenade at the residence of the engineer around 6pm yesterday.
Speaking to media persons, SE, MANIDCO Haobijam Manojkumar, 50 son of Devendrajit said that a family member saw an unidentified youth entering their residential compound and leaving after placing something at the courtyard.
He said when family members came out to check the thing left behind by the youth, it turned out to be a grenade, following which, the family informed the police.
A team of Imphal police soon came and picked up the grenade, he said.
Elaborating further, he said that he had not received any personal threats from anyone except for a message received on December 23 from an unknown number.
However, the threatening message was related to official work, he said while speculating the grenade threat could be related to his official work.
He further said that the grenade could be work related as the PREPAK (Pro) had been pressurising his department for percentage from some works.
A woman protestor said that they strongly condemn the threat in a crowded and residential area and further appealed to all against such violent act in the future.
She also asked for clarification from all concerned at the earliest.
