Moreh leaders discuss grievances

MOREH, December 31: A discussion was today held at the office of the Hill Tribe Council (HTC) on the non-functioning of Social Welfare Office and PHED in the sub division of Moreh.

During the discussion, it was mentioned that the Social Welfare Office was inaugurated by minister AK Mirabai on December 27, 2012 and she had assured that the office would be soon developed to a complete office so as to provide social welfare benefits to the inhabitants of the town.

Now even after the completion of one year since its inauguration, there is no visible change in the office, lamented the leaders.

In this regard, Jangmang Haokip, president of HTC mentioned that no inhabitants of Moreh has recieved any benefit from the Social Welfare Office Moreh.

He said the office has only one staff at present.

He further said that it took two or three days when people are trying to get benefit from the district headquarters Chandel and continued that considering all these hardships, the government had inaugurated the office at Moreh but it has failed to serve its purpose.

If the social welfare officer posted at Moreh has DDO powers than it would somewhat minimise the burden of the border town, he observed.

M Thoiba Singh president of Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) observed that the people of Moreh town has long been facing scarcity of drinking water as the two water reservoirs located at ward No. 1 and 9 has failed to meet the necessary demand.

Thoiba further proposed construction of water hand pumps int eh locality to to meet the water demand.

It was also discussed in the meeting on the measures of Myanmar Government which is providing safe drinking water to its citizen to lead the people a healthy life.

He further demanded to authorise DDO power to social welfare officer posted at Moreh and also to provide necessary drinking water by constructing more water reservoirs and hand pumps so as to meet increasing water of the emerging commercial border town.

During the meeting, the representative of Tamil Sangam Moreh and Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh attended.
