IMPHAL, Dec 21: Declaring that Manipur University vice-chancellor, prof HNK Sarma has failed to fulfil all its demands, the Manipur University Teachers Association will, as decided earlier, launch cease workstrike from February 1, 2014.

According to a statement, the demands include implementation of HAG scale, appointment of pro- vice-chancellor, finance officer, controller of examinations, various directors, filling of faculty positions, etc.

It said that MUTA had already launched a series of protests such as a one day mass casual leave on August 1, 2013, non-cooperation movement from September 24 to Oct 31, 2013 and a total boycott on November 1, 2013 till date.

However, there is no change in the attitude of the vice-chancellor, Prof HNK Sarma, in his authoritarian and autocratic style of functioning, and non-seriousness in fulfilling the demands, it said and added that as a result, MUTA is compelled to launch the cease-work strike from February 1, 2014, it said.

In the meantime various other forms of protests such as sit-in-protest, mass rally, and hunger strike will also be launched, it further continued.
