IMPHAL, December 24: Minister of Commerce and Industries flagged off Mission Myanmar-Phase 2 at a function held today at Shija Hospitals, Langol. The program has the mission of rendering 200 free cataract surgeries at Monywa General Hospitals, Myanmar. The 12-member team includes two ophthalmologists.
Govindas Konthoujam was the chief guest while Dr Kh Palin, Chairman cum Managing Director, Shija Hospitals was the president at the function.
During the programme, Govindas said passport and Food Cooperation of India (FCI) offices will be opened at the premises of the Old Assembly as soon as possible.
He further contended that without helping each other, bringing the relationship between the two countries closer will be a distant dream. He exuded confidence that the health mission will be helpful in establishing a good relationship between Myanmar and India. People are facing lots of problems regarding the preparation of their passports and visa and removal of Protection Areas Permits, he stated. He further stressed on the need for physical participation in making the Look East Policy a profitable reality.
Palin said that the mission is a milestone and a historical event while sharing his experience from the previous visit. He further expressed his commitment to bringing cornea transplantation facility to Manipur.
He said, the previous mission to Myanmar recieved a lot of appreciation and he was informed that the earlier image of Manipur was elevated after the medical tour. Dr Palin requested the state government to removes the state PAP to facilitate various industry including health and tourism.
