The ill-fated oil tanker bearing regd No MN01-7900 was heading towards Imphal when it met with the self-accident, according to police source.

What is interesting is that during the course of today`s accident, locals instead of lending a helping hand to the vehicle operators took advantage of the situation and were busy collecting the leaked fuel from the ill-fated tanker.

Some vehicle owners were also seen waiting along the road for the fuel collectors to sell them the fuel at a low price. On learning the about unwanted incident Kangpokpi police led by its OC, L Vaiphei turn both the parties away from the spot.

The driver and handyman of the tanker who escaped with minor injuries were provided medical aid at CHC, Kangpokpi with the help of the Kangpokpi police.

The oil tanker while trying to avoid a huge pothole in the middle of the road fell down into the river side, said an eyewitness.

It may be mentioned that at this particular place on October 25 an Alto Maruti Suzuki Car met with a similar accident causing serious injuries to an employee of DRDA, Senapati.

In the meantime, even while the National Highway 2 becomes a threat to many innocent lives the state Govt. as well as the concern authority and the civil bodies of the district continues to remain mute spectators.

It will wise on the part of the state govt and the concerned authority to take notice of the dilapidated condition of the National Highway 2 since such unfortunate incident is likely to occur frequently along the highway due to the bad condition of the road.
