IMPHAL, December 4: Members of the Autonomous District Council (ADC), Chandel who are camping against the Chandel ADC chairman Lhukhosei Zou have made a joint appeal to the state chief minister, deputy chief minister and Deputy General of Police to ensure the safety and security of the Naga ADC members who are under constant threat from the NSCN (IM).
Members of the ADC convened a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club appealing the government for removal of the present chairman of the ADC.
Addressing the press conference, spokesperson, SS Beradin said 13 of the 26 members are opposing the present chairman for his failure in administration.
The 13 will continue to stand unitedly demanding the removal of the present chairman, he said.
The rebelling members are presently camping at the Nature Cure Centre, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East, he said.
Elaborating further on the controversy surrounding the present situation, it has been learnt that on December 2, a man identified as Hopson had made a complaint to the Irilbung Police station that the ADC Kangoi member GP Thomas was forcibly detained by 12 other members at the Nature Cure Centre.
Following the complaint, the concern OC had himself personally met and interrogated GP Thomas to ascertain the facts, he said.
Around 7 pm of December 3, a few unidentified youths came at the centre and demanded a meeting with GP Thomas citing matters about the appointment of chowkidar cum peon, he claimed.
The unidentified youths remained adamant on meeting the member even after the members declined which resulted in an argument lasting for about half an hour, he continued.
At last the youths left the place after threatening to use guns next time, he alleged.
He further said that on the same day later on additional SP of Irilbung reached the centre and ordered the protestors to vacate the place and area at the earliest considering the consequences, although, camping is not against the law.
