IMPHAL, December 20: Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam has inaugurated the newly constructed building of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) Ltd at Lamphelpat today.

During the function, Gaikhangam stated that he will urge the chief minister O Ibobi to consider the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission for the staff of MTDC within a short period of time. Once the state recovers from the financial crunch it is facing at present, the government will begin turning its attention to the matter, he added.

He mentioned that MTDC was set up with high hopes and even though the number of corporations in the state had been downsized from 30 to three-four, the government decided to retain the corporation as a way of reposing faith in it.

He urged the staff not to feel disheartened or lose confidence, noting that state government had invested Rs 1.20 crores for the construction of the MTDC office building. He lauded the work standard maintained by the MTDC, asserting that the level of quality at both hills and valley in different fields is appreciable.

He predicted that MTDC will someday be capable of standing alone on its feet and obtain deposit works from outside states. He appealed to the corporation to keep updated annual account statements so that it can be furnished to whosoever seeking it to show its accountability and contend for deposit works.

In his presidential speech, Manga Vaiphei who has retained the chairmanship of MTDC again after serving the last tenure of five years mentioned that he is the longest serving chairman. Following a Cabinet decision, the district council engineering cell has been attached with MTDC increasing the manpower of the corporation which is a work agency under the management of the state government, he said.

After assumption of charge of deputy chief minister, Gaikhangam has fulfilled the deployment of security for the safety of the staff of MTDC, he said. The chairman while recounting that the corporation used to handle the works of district council, stated that they have been deprived of the works even though the size was modest.

The corporation has prepared a DPR of over Rs seven crore for construction of an administration building and it will be submitted to the government soon. The MTDC used to receive a grant of Rs 50 lakh from the Tribal Development every year but unfortunately it has been stopped, according to Vaiphei. He appealed to the deputy Chief Minister to revive the grant.

At the function, MLA DK Karungthang, Director MTDC Luminthang Haokip and chairman of hill areas committee Dr Chaltolian Amo were also present.
