Race-course to come up at Pony sanctuary: CM Ibobi

IMPHAL, December 29: State Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today inspected the Marjing Pony Sanctuary site at Heingang, Imphal East.

According to a DIPR statement, inspecting the site the CM said that the required land acquisition of the sanctuary will be done at first and then an eco-friendly fencing in the form of a ring-Bund will be constructed.

“For this he also gave his advice and suggestion to Veterinary and Animal Husbandry minister Govindas to prepare and submit the DPR for the project at the earliest to the Union Agriculture Ministry.”

He said that a race course and a training pologround are also to be developed in the site, said the statement before adding that while meeting with some land pattadars of the proposed site, CM assured that the government will give compensations accordingly and will not acquire their land by force.

He appealed for cooperation from the public in this project to preserve and promote the endangered Manipuri Pony the population of which is less than 1000 at present, it said.

The chief minister was accompanied by Veterinary and Animal Husbandry minister Govindas Konthoujam; MLA N Biren Singh; renowned filmmaker Aribam Shyam Sharma; chairperson National school of Drama, Ratan Thiyam; Prof Th Tombi Singh; commissioner Art and Culture RK Nimai Singh and other top officials of vety and AH Dept etc, informed the statement.
