Two bodies found; homicide suspected

IMPHAL December 28: Two bodies were today recovered from different places in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

In the first incident, the body of a 45-year old man was found by locals from in front of a lower primary school at Yairipok Nongbang around 10 am today.

Meanwhile, the dead man has been identified as Irom Ingoucha, 45, son of (L) Kulachandra of Yairipok Leirongthel.

The body was later picked by the team of Yaripok police team after a team of the state forensic expert conducted a full examination of the body and the area and deposited to the JNIMS morgue for post mortem this evening.

A family member said that Ingoucha had been missing since the morning of December 25 and had remained traceless till today before his dead body was found this morning.

Police said, they were informed of the presence of the dead body by locals of Yairipok Nongbang, following which a team rushed to the spot.

Bruise marks were found on the victims face and neck, which has pointed the death towards a suspected murder, said police, while informing that a murder case been taken up under IPC section 302.

Police also suspected the use of a hard object in hitting the victim.

In yet another suspected case of murder the dead body of a 12 year old student of Little Master School Samurou was found in a suspicious manner from a bush on the banks of Imphal River some 200 meter north of Imphal Barrage.

The body was found around 1 pm, just about 100 meters from the boy’s Sawombung Awang Leikai residence under Wangoi Police Station.

Family members have identified the boy as Oinam Muba alias Sarif alias Kondum son of Dilawar alias Goroba of Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai.

The body was found by a search party set up after the boy had gone missing since yesterday evening.

He further said that the body was found in a semi-naked condition with an one foot long injury mark on the right side of the abdomen, suspected to be made by a sharp weapon.

The boy was not seen since yesterday 4 pm. However, family members realised he was actually missing around 8.30 pm, he said.

Soon a search party was launched, he said before adding that relatives and friends were also asked if Muba was with them.

The boy’s mobile phone had also remained switched off since yesterday, he said.

A missing report with the concerned Wangoi Police station was filed this morning itself, he continued.

The search also continued this morning using loud speakers, he said.

And during the course of search today, the body was found among the bushes along the river bank, he said.

Soon after, the police arrived and picked up the body and deposited it at the RIMS morgue for post mortem.

A team of the state forensic expert also examine the body and the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, soon after the body was recovered, locals converged at the local community hall and formed a Joint Action Committee regarding the incident.

The JAC further passed a five point resolution including demands for the conduct of post mortem of the body in the presence of a magistrate and full video coverage; demand for fast police investigation and arrest of the culprits; not to claim the dead body until and unless the culprits are arrested; proper compensation from the government to the victim’s family.

The JAC had also demanded that in case the demands are not fulfilled by December 31, the JAC along with other civil society organisations of the state to launch various forms of agitation.
