UTLA factions engage in shoot-out at Tousem

JIRIBAM, December 15: Cadres of different factions of the hill-based militant group United Tribal Liberation Army were involved in a factional shoot out late last evening around 8:30 pm.

The said skirmish between cadres of Robert and SK Thadou factions of the outfit- both Suspension of Operation signatories, reportedly occurred at Phaitol village, under Tousem sub-division, Tamenglong.

Sources said that the factional fighting resulted after around 11 cadres of the other SK Thadou came to the village which is under the control of the other faction.

It is also learnt that a cadre identified as only Katu, 25 of Pangmun village, Tousem was injured in the fighting. However, it couldn’t be established to which faction he belongs to. The injured has been hospitalised at Kadamtal, Jiribam.

Meanwhile, according to a different source, the SK Thadou group were reportedly angered by information that cadres of the Robert faction were involved in extortion in the name of the SK Thadou group leading to the confrontation.
