IMPHAL January 2: A 27-year-old man was found dead in suspicious circumstances yesterday at an under construction building at Kakwa Bazar under Singjamei Police Station where he was engaged as a labourer.

Locals of the deceased identified him as Ningthojam Dhiren, 27, son of Birgopal of Kumbi Ithai Barrage Road announced the formation of a JAC in order to seek justice for the family members.

Speaking to the media persons at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, member of the committee Laishram Kiran said that the deceased was employed as labourer for construction of the building under contractor Kumar of Kakwa for the past one year and stayed there.

He continued that from December 31 morning onwards his mobile phone was found in the switch off mode and yesterday afternoon at around 2.30 pm, two labourers who were working along with the deceased came to his residence to inform family members that Dhiren was found dead near a drain on the back side of the building. They suspected that he died after falling down from the building.

However, Kiran asserted that it appeared to be a case of homicide as they discovered multiple injury marks all over his body among other proofs. Dhiren might have been brutally killed and later his body dumped at the spot where he was found by co-workers to make it seem like an accident, he continued.

He informed that on the night of December 31, some local of Kakwa Bazar heard argument and scuffle from inside the building premises. They reported to the JAC that Dhiren was talking to someone called Brojen pleading him to spare his life and asking what his fault was.

Regarding all this matter the locals of the deceased persons held an emergency meeting and formed a JAC and passed some resolutions demanding arrest of the culprits within three days, government support for family members as he is the only employed in the family and befitting punishment to the accused.

The JAC has further decided not to claim the body in the meantime until their demands are met. Otherwise, it warned of agitation in collaboration with various civil society organisations.
