2nd tribal market opened at Nungba

IMPHAL, January 28:  The second tribal market in the state was inaugurated at Nungba today.

The formal function was attended by deputy chief minister Gaikhangam as the chief guest and parliamentary secretary Victor Keishing and deputy commissioner, Tamenglong AS Arthur as the president and guest of honour respectively.

The complex is a multi-storey building.

At the end of the inauguration, the 4th conference of All Zeliangrong Catholic Women’s Society cum ordination of Deacon Hillary Kahimgai Malangmai was also held under the theme, “Women, agent of transforming love”.

The function was held at St. John Parish Nungba, Tamenglong district.

Speaking at the function, Gaikhangam said that the conference is timely as the tribal women need to be sensitized on rights of women.

He said that the strength of the Manipuri women is laudable as history is testament. The main force of safeguarding the society is also done by the women and who also know how to maintain the economic status of the household. The importance given to women for tendering of the Food Security Bill highlights that the feminine gender is indeed responsible for the family, he observed.

He said that work culture has to be propagated so that Tamenglong district which is said to be the poorest district of the state can be developed holistically.

The funds for development are also given by the state government in many schemes and this has to be sensitized to the public.

He said that rehabilitation scheme of ‘Jhumming family in Hill Area’ is to be taken up by the state government and alternative means of livelihood is to be given to the families. He said that minor hydro power plants are also being planned from the major rivers of the district mainly the Irang river.
