5kg IED found in Jiribam, defused

JIRIBAM, January 21: With the Republic Day celebration just days away, security arrangement has been tightened throughout the state.

Amidst such arrangements, a combined team of Jiribam Police commandos and the 27 AR defused an Improvised Explosive Device planted at Lamkhai Bazar along the National Highway 37 yesterday.

The IED was planted near a hotel at the bazar which is on the east of Jiri police station around 11.30 pm, yesterday.

Sources said the combined team had received prior information about the planting of the IED weighing around 5 kg.

The explosive was detonated this morning around 7.55 at a nearby paddy field.

After defusing the explosive yesterday, it was detonated this morning.

The bomb which was strategically placed could have resulted in several death, if it had exploded.
