IMPHAL, Jan 28: Former minister from Wabagai assembly constituency Haji Abdul Salam took another major stride towards becoming the first Muslim Parliamentarian from Manipur after no other person filed their nomination for the lone Rajya Sabha seat for the state when the time for filing of nomination expired at 3 pm today.
He will be officially declared as the next representative to the Upper House from the state if his candidature is cleared during the scrutiny of his nomination papers which will be conducted at the Manipur Legislative Assembly at 11 am on January 29.
If the scrutiny passes him, he will be elected unopposed and the elections scheduled on February 7, 2014 will not be necessary.
