CorCom boycotts Republic Day

IMPHAL, January 21: The Coordination Committee (CorCom) in alliance with Hynnewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has today communicated in a press statement that the Republic Day of India which is celebrated on January 26 every year will be boycotted this year also as usual.

The statement mentioned that the celebration of the Republic Day of India is the day the Indian Constitution is imposed on the people of Western South East Asia (WSEA) so as to legalize their colonial occupation of the region adding that the Indian colonial regime which is trying to suppress the legitimate right of the people and the right to national self-determination.

And for the past 64 years since the imposition of India constitution, it has plotted to undermine the basic unity of the region by fragmenting the region on ethnic lines as part of their colonial policy of “divide and rule”, it said.

It is further continued that the Indian military campaign to suppress legitimate liberation struggles can never succeed and that the fight will continue to the last to regain our legitimate sovereignty and independence, it said and added that all these years, the people of our region, struggling for freedom and independence, have been boycotting India’s Republic Day with observing general strike every year on January 26 as a symbolic rejection of India’s Constitution.

This year also the boycott will be observed in the entire region and the general strike begins from 1:00 am till 5:00 pm adding that the general strike shall cover all forms of transportation, movement of all kinds of vehicles, all forms of entertainment including cinema and theatre shows and all activities of trade and commerce, it said in the statement.

However, the media, medical services and religious ceremonies shall be kept outside the purview of the General Strike. The CorCom press statement further called upon all the freedom loving peoples as well as patriotic organizations of the region to support and observe the General Strike.
