Court seeks appearance of Ratanmala murder accused

IMPHAL, Jan 2: The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West has taken cognizance of the sensational case where RK Ratanmala Devi was allegedly murdered after having raped by the accused Soibam Dhanabir Singh of Ningombam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West District, Manipur in the intervening night of January 29 and 30, 2010, said a press release of the Human Rights Law Network.

The release said the court has ordered for the appearance of the accused on January 22, 2014.

It may be pertinent to mention here that the mother of the victim girl has filed a writ petition in the High Court of Manipur seeking for speedy trial of the case so as to punish the culprit who involved in the rape and murder of her daughter at the earliest, it said.

Further, it is also to be remembered that the accused person Soibam Dhanabir Singh had given his confessional statement as to the murdering of the victim before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal, it said.

As an impact of filing writ petition before the High Court of Manipur, the charge sheet has been submitted and consequently the learned chief judicial magistrate, Imphal west has taken cognizance of the offence committed by the accused person, it said added that this is possible due to active role and initiation taken up by the Human Rights Law Network, Manipur.
