Explosives found inside DI Tata; locals stage protest

IMPHAL, January 11: Reacting to the recovery of a powerful IED (TNT) cake along with four detonators and a dry cell battery from inside a DI owned by a special contractor this morning, locals of Khongman zone IV and V staged a sit in protest at the local community hall today.

According to family members of the special contractor identified as T Munindro of Khongman Zone V, Irom Leirak, the powerful explosives was found firmly packed inside a carton box along with the detonators, a dry battery cell and some wires concealed under paddy bags.

The explosive was found this morning around 8 am, while unloading the paddy bags, informed the family members.

Soon the police was informed, following which a team of the 40 Assam Rifles and state police personnel along with state bomb experts and safely detonated the explosive around 11 am at Yuvaraj Pali Lowmanbi Lowkon under Irilbung police.

Family sources also speculated that the IED could have been placed yesterday when the vehicle was parked at their residential gate as the paddy bags which were won from a tambola game were loaded yesterday night itself.

Meanwhile, angry protestors condemn the placing of the explosive and further demanded against repeating such act in the future.

A woman protestor further appealed to all concern to clarify the motive behind the threat at the earliest.

Meanwhile, police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
