CCPUR, January 31: State Governor, Vinod Kumar Duggal visited Churachandpur on Friday and interacted with members of the Autonomous District Council.

The Governor also held meetings with District Level Officers at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner.

He had also inspected the District Hospital and the construction of the Mini-Secretariat at Churachandpur during his maiden visit to the district.

During his interacting with the ADCC members, the Governor mostly concentrated on the devolution of power and said,” I am quite familiar with the North East region as I have spent time in Mizoram in my early career and have served as the home secretary of Manipur.”

“Frankly speaking, this is my first outing outside Imphal to visit and meet the district officials and have a little interaction with Autonomous District Council members. The real meaning of the word Democracy is ultimately providing maximum power to the people. In principle, I do not have any disagreement with your demands. But on the broad framework, I must confess I`m not the competent authority to act on the demands mentioned by the council members. All I can say is that the CM is absolutely sympathetic. I assure you that all the points mentioned by the Autonomous District Council Members will be taken to a logical conclusion and thoroughly discuss.”

“The role of the Governor is more or less merely constitutional,” he said before adding,”I do not believe in just being a Governor, but in being friends to the hills people.”

“The role of the ADCC is to segregate the weak and take out the most crucial and important issues and empower them. I intend to meet all the Members of the Autonomous District Council from the six districts of the State through the next couple of months”.

While meeting with the District Level Officers, the Governor of Manipur discussed a range of issues which included Water Shortage (Augmentation of Water Supply Scheme), Road Connectivity, Electricity and Health System and how satisfied the public were with the present scheme of things. He then inspected the District Hospital in Churachandpur and discussed with the Medical Superintendent about family planning, population growth chart, lifespan chart and personally interacted with the patients in the District Hospital.
