IED ambush on BSF convoy

IMPHAL, Jan 4: Militant suspects ambushed a patrolling team of the 49th BSF F company this morning near Misihoubi in between Laikoiching and Moirangpurel about 9 km south west from Lamlai Police, Imphal East district.

The Manipur Naga People’s Front has in the meantime claimed that the outfit had launched an attack on the 49th Battalion C-Coy BSF using IED.

A statement of the outfit has said that the attack was carried out by a select team of the outfit’s army, Manipur Naga People’s Army.

The outfit has further claimed that four security force personnel were killed during the attack.

Sources informed that the incident occurred around 10.50 am. The ROP team witnessed two persons suspiciously moving atop the hill before a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was exploded, informed source.

It has been further informed that soon after the blast the armed militant suspects also opened fire at the ROP team following which the team also retaliated. However, no human casualties were reported on both sides during the brief skirmish.

It may be recalled that three personnel of the India Reserved Battalion (IRB) were killed in 2010 at the same area in an attack launched by the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

According to a statement of the MNPF signed by its assistant publicity secretary, Thomas Numai, the attack was conducted at Misi Makhong lying in between Laikoiching and Leisipung villages in Senapati district.
