Inebriated man with live bomb creates frenzy in Pallel

IMPHAL, Jan 28: A man created a frenzy in Pallel Bazar by roaming in the streets with a live hand grenade in his hands in an inebriated state today.

Personnel of Thoubal CDO ultimately overpowered the drunkard and handed him over to Kakching PS for necessary investigation. He was reportedly disturbing the people living at Pallel Bazaar by threatening their lives. The local residents later organized a sit-in-protest against the incident.

Police sources said the person was identified as Haobijam Sadananda, 41, son of Tombipishak of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai in Imphal West district. He also told the police that presently he is staying at Wangkhei near Meihoubam Lampak, in Imphal East district.

The police team found him near Pallel Bridge at about 10:30 am. Police seized the Chinese made hand grenade from him. Police source said that an unidentified man handed him the bomb at a local liquor vendor a few days back, telling him that he would return soon to take it back.

As he feared the safety of his family with the explosive in the house, so he took out the bomb, the police cited the man as saying.

Meanwhile, in a unrelated incident, the Pallel police arrested a man with a Chinese made hand-grenade during routine frisking and checking in front of the Pallel police station around 10.45 am on Tueday.

According to a reliable source, the arrested is identified as Haodinjam Sadananda (41), Son of H Tombipishak of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai who is at present staying in Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak. He was arrested from a vehicle plying along the Imphal-Moreh road while enroute to Imphal.

The police found the Chinese made hand grenade concealed inside a tin fish can while checking his belongings.
