`LS polls to see 18 more polling stations in state`

IMPHAL, January 7: Another 18 polling station has been added for the upcoming Parliamentary election in 2014, said O Nabakeshore CEO Manipur.

He said the aggregate of polling stations will be 2662 polling station and the new addition has been made for the conveniences of the voters to cast their votes. As per the guideline from the Election Commission the maximum voters at a polling station must be 1200 for urban areas and 1400 for rural areas.  Further, the polling booths must be kept within a walking distances of two kilometres for any particular voter. In abeyance with the policy, 18 new polling stations were approved by the election commission of India, he added.

He added that in upcoming the Parliamentary election electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used at both Inner and Outer constituencies. We have sufficient EVMs for the 2662 polling station with 15 percent reservation stock.

The first level checking of EVM machine has been completed with the participation of technical experts from Bharatya Electronic Ltd and concerned DC of each district at the strong room.

The second phase of checking will conduct before the process for filing of nomination commences.

He further announced that the new plastic voter card (PVC) will be issued for newly enrolled electors on or before January 23, 2014 and previous voters can apply for PVC too.
