NE people in Delhi to undergo self defence class

IMPHAL, January 28: In a bid to ensure the safety and security of people of the North East in the national capital, in the wake of the several cases of sexual harassment especially the women, the nodal officer for North East, led by joint commissioner/Training and chief coordinator for NE people, Robin Hibu will be conducting special emergency self-defence training and Hindi speaking class.

Following request from a number of North East women organisations, NGOs and students’ unions, the nodal officer for North East will be conducting emergency self-defence training for NE (males and females) in the national capital, said a circular of the joint CP/training and chief coordinator for NE people and Employees in Delhi.

The circular said, “We are planning to organise this training along with the Hindi speaking classes at Siri Fort Karate Club in the last week of February, 2014 after the self-defence training.”

“The classes will be held for two hours followed by one hour of Hindi speaking class at the same venue. Proposed timing for self-defence class will be late afternoon period on Saturday, Sunday and on gazetted holidays.”

The circular has also invited willing NE people both male and female to submit their willingness along with their name, age, mobile number, email address etc to their respective state representatives or directly at email address tsldelhi@hotmail.com or at robinhibu@gmail.com.
