IMPHAL, January 16: The actual crude oil production in 2012-13 is about 37.86 million metric tonne (MMT), which is about 0.6 percent lower than the previous year’s crude oil production of 38.09 MMT. The marginal decrease in crude oil production is mainly due to lower crude oil production by ONGC and OIL than the previous year, said T Dharmavir assistant manager (Retail Sale) for senior division manager, Imphal and state level co-ordinator, Manipur.
Delivering the key note address at the inauguration function of the Oil and Gas Conservation fortnight 2014 at Nirmala Hotel, he further stated that the average natural gas production in the year 2012-13 is about 111.4 Million Standard Cubic Meter per day (MMSCMD) as against the natural gas production of 130.3 MMSCMD in 2011-12.
The lower gas production in 2012-13 is primarily due to less gas production in KG-DWN-98/3 (KG-D6) block, he informed while adding that as on April 1, 2013, the balance recoverable crude oil and natural gas reserves in the country are 758.42 million metric tonne (MMT) and 1351.53 billion cubic metre (BCM) respectively.
He said that there are 22 petroleum refineries operating in the country, 17 are in public sector, three are in private sector and two are in joint ventures of public sector.
Y Thamkeshore, commissioner CAF and PD said in his chief guest speech that the country has produced not sufficient crude oil for year, so it is bought from the outside country.
He said the fortnight observation is to create awareness in the state.
So we need to conserve petroleum products, he added.
Further continuing his speech he said that the theme “Save fuel, save money, save environment” is essential in today’s society.
Since the past two years, traffic jams have become very common in the state, which only indicates that fuel consumption has increased manifold.
People need to understand the need to control consumption of fuel; theCAF and PD commissioner further encouraged taking public transportation for going to the workplace.
He further continued that using adulterated fuel in our vehicles increases the production of greenhouse gases, which affects the Ozone layer the most.
Guest of honour at the function, K Rahdakumar DC Imphal West said that the growth in economy has seen a rise in energy consumption because of the life style changes, economic growth has brought.
However, the crude oil available in the country is not adequate, he said before elaborating on the need to create awareness on the importance of conserving fuel.
He observed that the authorities need to provide leaflets with the do and donts for fuel conservation.
Meanwhile, the students and people present at the function also promised to conserve petroleum products and avoid unproductive and wasteful use.
Today’s programme was organised by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association under the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, GoI in association with the oil industry.
