Students lock up college administrative block

IMPHAL, January 23: YK College Students Union`s agitation demanding filling up of necessary teachers, reviewing the utilised order of transferred teachers and also to provide necessary infrastructure of the college has gained more momentum today. The administrative block of the college was locked up today as part of the agitation.

The students` are preparing to launch a more stern agitation including total bandh of the district, in case the government of Manipur do not provide a positive response to the demand of the students of the college.

The agitation was launched from yesterday with a sit in protest and as a follow up program today, the administrative block of the college was locked up. Despite of this, the students also closed the office room of the Principal, the common room of the teachers and the various class rooms.

In this connection, the secretary of the students’ union L Memchoubi Devi said that the government of Manipur is not responding to the legitimate demands of the students adding that the government has recently transferred two teachers from the college which has weakened the teacher strength of the college.

She further said that if the government do not give positive response to the democratic agitation of the students, then they may opt for more violent agitations and further made an appeal to the state education minister for his intervention in this regard.
