<![CDATA[IMPHAL, February 19: The Aimol Students` Union Manipur (ASUM) has strongly decried the `indifferent attitude` of the State Government regarding eviction of illegal encroachers and expansion of Aimol Road from Pallel Bazaar.

While speaking to media persons, Ch Sote Aimol, president, Aimol Students` Union said that, as the Aimol-Kangoi Road was narrowing and too congested for traffic from Pallel Bazaar, the Students` Union is working tirelessly for eviction and expansion of the road since the last 4-5 years.

He said the union had even approached the local MLA, director of Settlement and Land Records, DC Thoubal and SDO Kakching for eviction and expansion of the said road.

However, the state government and the concerned authorities have turned a deaf ear to the demand of the union, he lamented.

Even though the survey and demarcation for the eviction and expansion of the road has been conducted more than four times, however, it remains to be translated into action, he said.

The latest survey and demarcation based on cadastral map of 1960 was done by the field staffs under the supervision of assistant survey & settlement officer (AS&SO) Thoubal-II on July 13, 2013 as per the instruction of the then director of Settlement and Land Records, he said.

And a memorandum was issued by AS & SO Thoubal -II in connection with the survey and demarcation for filing of objections within seven days by interested pattadars/ parties, he continued before adding that even after the lapse of six months from the expired date of the memorandum calling objections from the interested parties, there is no sign for execution of the said work till date from the concerned department, he lamented.

And a memorandum was also submitted to the MLA 42 Tengnoupal A/c in connection with the said work on January 9, this year and no action has been taken up so far, said the student leader.

He warned that, the students` union will enforce a 24 hr general strike at Pallel Bazaar with effect from midnight of February 28, if the State Government and the concerned authority fail to respond positively for eviction and expansion of the said road on or before 2pm of February 28.

He also appealed to all the civil organizations of in and around Pallel and students` bodies to cooperate while enforcing general strike.
