CBI team escorts back arrested KYKL cadre

IMPHAL, February 21: A KYKL cadre who was arrested from along the Indo-Nepal border recently was brought back to the state capital escorted by a CBI team today.

A team of the CBI escorted the KYKL cadre in an Indigo flight (flight no 6E-362) from Kokata to Imphal.

He was arrested from Raxaul along the Indo-Nepal border recently, informed a source.

A report carried in The Telegraph said, “W Jayanta Singh alias Dilip alias Ingobi was allegedly involved in the murder of a Manipur University teacher, Islamuddin, in 2009.”

It said, “Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the CBI carried out raids on his hideout at Raxaul on February 19 and took Jayanta into custody. He was brought to Patna from Raxaul, around 210km north of the state capital, under tight security.”

“The CBI court headed by Khyati Singh allowed the sleuths of the investigating agency to take him on transit remand to Manipur. Sources said Jayanta was associated with the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and a banned organisation —Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup.”

It further said, “Jayanta, a resident of Wangoi Laiphrakpam Mayai Leikai, was involved in a series of attacks carried out by the organisation. An investigating officer told the court that Jayanta’s name also figured in the killing of then dean of Manipur University, Islamuddin.”

“Initially, a case was lodged with Singjamei police station in connection with the murder of the dean but the case was later handed over to the CBI, which registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 120 (B) (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967,” said the newspaper report.
