Chaoba clarifies on allegations

IMPHAL, February 19: Following allegations from the Mahila Morcha members of the state BJP, state president Th Chaoba called a press conference clarifying on the charges levelled against him.

The allegations are baseless and there is no favouritism in the party regarding candidature for the Lok Sabha election, he said.

He clarifies, “The allegation that he has submitted nomination documents of only RK Ranjan to central leaders is totally wrong.”

The party had conducted a series of discussions at different levels including district, assembly constituencies, morcha, state election committee level for the candidature of the party, he continued.

The allegation that the state president has recommended RK Ranjan’s name for candidature is unfortunate, he said before declaring he is not involved in the selection process.

He continued that the BJP had conducted proper official procedure to select the candidate.

The nominations of all four candidates had been sent to the central leaders following several meetings held recently at Hotel Nirmala, he asserted before adding that the selection will be held only by the central leaders.

Confirmation of the selected candidate could be announced during February 22-25, by the party’s parliamentary committee.

Today’s protest is a sign of a stronger BJP, he asserted.

The BJP, Manipur Pradesh has started its tentative process of campaigning for the LS election, he said.

The campaign for the election was launched in the state by Narendra Modi during his recent election rally, he said.

Several rallies are lined up to be held at Noney, CCpur, Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East areas, he added.

A motor bike rally will also be organised soon.

Several central leaders and ST Morcha leaders will also participate in the rallies, he said before declaring that the State BJP is ready for the election campaign.
