IMPHAL, February 21: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi met the families of the two non-locals killed near the Myanmar Border, at JNIMS Mortuary around 12:30pm.
“It is an unfortunate incident where two countries were involved. Such senseless killing is highly condemnable. We will soon know who were behind the gruesome murders by investigating about the incident. The state govt will give five lakhs ex-gratia each to families of both the deceased,” he said.
He further stated that minister of commerce and industry Govidas Konthoujam, IFCD minister Ngamthang Haokip and MLA DK Korungthang were in Moreh to take stock of the situation.
A high ranking official and some delegates from Myanmar enroute to Guwahati were not allowed to enter Moreh.
Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam has also condemned the “brutal killing.”
Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio today visited Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of medical Sciences, mortuary and met with the families of the two, this afternoon. He was accompanied by MLA TN Haokip.
He continued, the two had entered Myanmar for Tamu after obtaining pass from the gate which means that it was a ‘recorded journey’. The killing of the two is inhumane conduct, he lamented before assuring that the state government will contact its Myanmar counterparts to find the culprits at the earliest.
And if needed, the state will ask for help from the centre, he asserted.
Steps will also be taken up to ensure that such incidents are not repeated, he added.
