NEW DELHI, February 10 (MIC): Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh met the young Manipuri rape victim and her family this afternoon at AIIMS here.
He talked to the victim and her family members and assured all possible help from the state government.
He also enquired about the condition of the young girl from the concerned doctors.
During the visit, the chief minister was accompanied by state Health minister Phunzathang Tonsing , Agriculture minister Md Nasir and Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly O Landhoni Devi.
Later, the CM met media persons at the Manipur Bhavan here and said that the girl is out of danger.
He observed that the victim is very young and looked very innocent. He also expressed his shock.
The CM further informed the media that the Governor of Manipur VK Duggal who was stationed in Delhi talked to the Police Commissioner of Delhi, Bhim Sain Bassi yesterday regarding the case, and that the culprit had been arrested.
He further asserted that he has also met the lady IPS officer who is the Investigating Officer of the case at Manipur Bhavan, and that she told him that the accused person had confessed to the crime and she would submit the charge sheet within 20 days.
O Ibobi Singh said, according to the law, the accused person could not be escaped. When he met the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde yesterday, the Union Minister had informed that his ministry would take stringent actions against the culprit.
Referring to the enactment of a racism law, the chief minister opined that a strong law was needed in the country. Talking about the UNC and NSCN, he said “Since the time immemorial, we are living together. They are brothers and sisters”.
Referring to the insurgency problems in Manipur, he stated that the people did not like their activities like illegal tax collection, disturbance on development activities taken place in the State.
The people in Manipur wanted development and peace. He admitted that insurgency in Manipur was not cent percent under control, but has improved a lot.
Earlier big companies from outside Manipur were reluctant to work in the state due to law and order problem, connectivity etc., now the situation had changed, he added.
Talking about the Jiri-Tupul-Imphal railway project, he stated that it would be completed by 2016.
It would feature three highest rail bridges and nine kilometer long tunnel.
